We repair interior and exterior structural defects of service manholes. The natural “wear and tear” of these structures results in increased risks to vehicular traffic on roadways and to human
and animal life elsewhere. In this case, repair may be needed to:
- replace a lid (or cover)
- replace of fix the frame
- raise the manhole cover to the level of the pavement, thus providing a more even pavement, or
- expose the structure if it had become buried or covered with pavement
In some cases, an accurate GPS reference of the location of a buried manhole is not available and some search methodology, e.g. using an electromagnetic induction search tool or ground penetrating radar (GPR), must be used to locate it’s position.
The area is cut to expose the buried manhole structure. The frame and cover are raised to be flush with the pavement (in the case of a roadway or paved surface) or ground. The materials used are according to design or repair specifications by owner.
Rehabilitation of a sewer manhole may target the interior surfaces or walls of the structure. This often includes such operations as replacing steps or ladder, replacing or reinforcing wall or shell, or even painting – depending on the type of utility. The reconstruction or repair of a sewer manhole can be a tedious process, but it is all a necessary part of maintaining an efficient waste disposal system.
